R.I.P. Bobby Ackles

ackles080706.jpgIt's always difficult when someone passes away and even more so when it's unexpected.

Bob Ackles, the man single-handedly responsible for the renaissance of the B.C. Lions, passed away early this morning of a heart attack according to TSN.

He was 69-years old.

As much of a Lions fan as I am and despite all the games I attended after Ackles left for the NFL after his first tour of duty with B.C., there was always an intangible element of class that was lacking until he returned for his second stint with the Orange and Black.

But now it is back and so are fans at B.C. Place.

Ackles has long been associated with the CFL club and was even the team's waterboy; he was also a huge supporter of Canadian football.

My brother was first on the scene on Bowen Island and tried to adminster cpr but it was to late. RIP.
