Half-Man, Half-Clothed-Woman...

Call me hetero, but I LOVE it when men take part in burlesque...and Chaz Royal's show at the Legion last Friday the 8th satisfied my need for men in garters and stockings! Okay, boys, don't freak out...it was only ONE man; the rest of the evening was a constant parade of half-naked female entertainment. And some half-man, half-woman nudity as well. Something for everyone, you know!
The show was at times sad, like when we said Good Bye to the tag team Miss Fixx and Jezebel. Jezebel is off to bigger and better burlesque in the United Kingdom, and Friday was the duo's last ever performance together. A little 1920s strip poker, anyone? I've always liked poker...
And then there was the more-than-hospitable Indra and her Brother (or so they said, but there was some tension in the air), who kept the audience enthralled with their wit and their hermaphroditic costumes.
Personally, my favourite part of the night was Farrah Moans' daredevil-style epic burlesque anthem to none other than Van Halen's "Panama". Nothing like 80s rock to get a Vancouver crowd screaming...our mullet-blood runs thick in the Lower Mainland. I have some killer pics of Ms Moans that will be featured in my upcoming interview with her...stay tuned for that later in the week.
The Legion is a great venue, and Chaz Royal had it set up as a cross between "high school play" and "music hall," meaning that we could feel kind of classy, but get really drunk at the same time. I'd like to thank the vets for their tolerance of us young folks, and Chaz Royal for the good time.
Chaz Royal Burlesque Social Club will be holding auditions on Saturday October 7th at the Waldorf Hotel Tahitian Lounge (if you've never been there you need to go!), and there will be $300 in cash & prizes to be won. Register by email at chazroyal@hotmail.com
