Order. Photograph. Eat. Write.

20070319_beyondjobs.jpgHere at BR headquarters we're almost out of ketchup and are currently feeling a bit bloated from eating too much hummus. Um, I guess what we're trying to say is that we're looking for new recruits to contribute restaurant reviews to Beyond Robson.

As a BR staffer, you get all the usual perks such as fame, business cards, a BR email address and minimal pay. But if you're the type that already goes out to eat and likes to take photos of your food and write about it later, then [rolls over due to stomach pains] we should talk!

Just drop us a line at jobs [at] beyondrobson [dot] com. Oh, and we're looking for other kinds of writers (and podcasters) too, so if you feel so inclined please get in touch.

Write For Beyond Robson

20070301_nowhiring.jpgLooking for an outlet to write about your life beyond Robson Street? Think there's gotta be a better place to get the goods on what's happening and interesting in Vancouver besides 24 Hours or The Straight?

Here at BR headquarters, we're announcing our latest recruitment drive and are looking for breathing, enthusiastic, culturally-tuned-in Vancouverites to join the team. Keep reading after the jump to learn about who we're looking for and what you can expect as a contributor to Beyond Robson.

A Note About Our Latest Sponsor

Many of you may have noticed the site looks a little different today. We wanted to let you know why.

As everyone knows, Beyond Robson is an advertising supported site. We really don't have very much ad revenue coming in but we are getting enough these days to help cover the costs of food and drinks when we get together for a meeting or perhaps even pay our contributors a little bit for their efforts.

A number of months ago we were approached by MINI to help them launch their new MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S. They're big fans of Beyond Robson and were interested in doing something a little bit different than the usual ad buy. The product of our discussions is what you see on the site today.

During our discussions we made sure that whatever we came up with it would not negatively impact your experience on the site. We're not running any of those annoying ads that float over the page or otherwise prevent you from getting the content you came here to read.

Maybe we succeeded. Maybe we didn't. The sponsorship as it appears today will only look like this for a short time period. If you have any feedback, feel free to let us know.

Your Photo Here

We're looking for some new photos to rotate into the space at the top of this page. If you have a photo you think would look nice on our site, please email it to photos [at] beyondrobson [dotcom].

What sort of photos work best? It's a subjective call but ideally something interesting and of good image quality that was taken in Vancouver. We like street scenes and landmarks. Really, just about anything except for the too obvious stuff like the Vancouver skyline, beach/ocean/mountain scenes or miscellaneous walls of graffiti which could be just about anywhere. Daytime shots tend to look better on the site than nighttime ones.

If you send us a photo, please save it as a JPEG in the following dimensions: 814x220. Any submissions we include will be credited on the site. So if you have a blog or Flickr account, please send us a link so we can link to you. Thanks.

20061128_cfc.jpgThe Canadian Film Centre is holding a special information session and screening tonight.

The screening, the Best of the CFC Wordwide Short Film Festival, is at 8:30pm. But prior to that, starting at 6:30pm, the CFC will be holding an information session for interested students. Alumni will be in attendance. Who knows, maybe Vancouver alumn such as Julie Kwan and Eric Paulsson, director and producer of Eve and the Firehorse will be there?

It all happens at the District 319 Theatre at 319 Main Street.
