There's a lady in Vancouver who goes by the name of Tamea Burd and her photography is something special! Seriously, I was skimming through the Vancouver and BR Flickr Pools and I randomly came upon her glorious photo work - so of course I had to feature her.

I was fascinated by the extreme variety of photos; she definitely doesn't stick to photographing the same subjects over and over again. In her collection of work, a viewer can come upon photos of beautiful children with their facial expressions faceted against the outline of everyday life. Photos of fruits, door knobs, random shadows and other such magical things can be found in her collection of work. I hope you enjoy her work as much I did!

Last Friday, September the seventh was sadly enough my last night out on the town for what will be a very long, isolated year of studying. To celebrate such an occasion I decided to check out the art on SWARM8's line-up of open venues for last Friday. In other words - I went art hopping!

I wasn't looking to buy any art but to only find some inspiration and grab some cheese and crackers along the way - thanks Gallery Gachet! The Swarm line-up for Friday included popular art venues such as Artspeak, Gallery Gachet, Goon Pack, Helen Pitt Gallery, The Met and The Crying Room. Enough venues to fill up a good five hours of walking about and gaining some new perspectives.

This is very last minute but Spartacus is having a Friday Night Screening called "Five Ring Circus Screening and Discussion" starting at 7pm.

Where: Spartacus Books
When: 7pm
Address: 319 West Hastings
Phone: 604.688.6138

Conrad Schmidt will be in to screen his film Five Ring Circus here at Spartacus Books. This is an intriguing film that exposes and examines the shortcomings of hosting the Olympics in Vancouver. It critically analyzes the claim that the coming 2010 Olympics is to be socially, environmentally and economically sustainable. This will be a great night to watch, listen, learn and speak out about the coming games..

Matthew L and his photography is just pure brilliance. It makes me want to drop everything I am doing and spend a second in his life because the surroundings that are his photos beat my mind to think there's a whole different world out there.

What struck me the most in an emotional aspect were his simple shots of Christmas. The photos of the cookies, the kitchen, the food and the floor space had so much soul in them. His work reaches deep into a viewer's heart and they relate to everyone. Matthew has traveled all over Canada but it panning to permanently move to BC. This feature does expose some of his Vancouver work but I can't wait to see how the city is captures through his eyes!

Skye Nott is my photographer of interest this week. After thoroughly going through some Vancouver photo groups and not seeing anything particularly special, I came upon Skye's photos and was entranced. Although his Flickr photo stream is not huge - since not so long ago he decided to begin from a clean slate, it definitely holds some very impressive photos.

What fascinated me the most was how naturally exaggerated everything was. His photos of New Zealand are the epitome of a magical world. His work incorporates the aspects of simplicity, quality and perspective into a wonderful collection of work. Each piece tells a story!

The folks at Spartacus Books are yet again teaming up with Gallery Gachet to put together an art show called "The Bathroom Gallery." I was fortunate enough to go last year and quite frankly couldn't have spent a better evening anywhere else. The Bathroom Gallery art show is worth visiting because it combines two of Vancouver's most culturally explicit non-profit venues and collaborates their achievements into an amazing evening of art. Gallery Gachet supports and displays the work or artists with disabilities. Most of you who went to the "Hot One Inch Action" button show probably remember how fun and interactive it was, even better - Vancouverites got to view the amazing work of our local artists.
